About two years we adopted our Lhasa Apso. Initially she was a great and loyal family dog and of course she still is. However, shortly after we adopted her we noticed unpredictable aggression(growling, lunging and barking) towards strangers, especially men. As soon as she gets to know a person she is very docile, yet unpredictable with others. We had her trained with a well respected trainer in Santa Barbara and there was some success, especially with the use of an electronic collar. However, she is still unpredictable with strangers as well as other animals. She did get used to our cat after two weeks and there were no problems thereafter. However, due to her unpredictable nature with strangers and even friends that visit our home, we cannot keep her anymore. We believe(as well as our trainer) that she was not socialized as young dog and may have been abused. There was no indication from the original adoption agency that she was aggressive towards strangers, so of course it is important for you to know all the details. She is truly a wonderful family dog and probably the most affectionate dog that I have had in my life, but her unpredictable nature is what is leading us to put her up for adoption. We have all her documents and papers. She loves walks with her owner!!!!
