About Cheyenne

Adoption Fee: $200
Australian Cattle Dog mix

Cheyenne came into the Visalia shelter with 3 other dogs. None of them socialized. The video I saw showed a lying down dog, frozen, while a shelter volunteer stroked her. Said a lot to me. I was able to take her, and the one that was glued to her side, Strawberry I call her. They flat couldn't handle the noise and environment of the shelter, and wouldn't have been seen by the public. The rescue coordinator reached out to me, and literally saved their lives. To get them here, there was a lot of handling going on. Getting them spayed, putting them on and taking them off a plane, new people, and dressing them in the gear they wore for a short time. Neither reacted or even tried to protest. Very respectful of humans. Cheyenne is about 2-3 yrs old. And wonderful with other dogs. Zero aggression, with people or other dogs. She's now in a foster home, taking appointments for one of her own. After 2 days, here is what her foster Chris has to say: 'Cheyenne is good with men, other dogs, kids, cats, horses and cattle She is potty trained. She notices loud noises but does not overreact, and rarely barks. She goes in her crate willingly, it's her safe place. She does not guard food. She's also fine with tv and music on moderate volume. Shy but curious. She's getting attached to me! She'd be such a good pet. She's moving along quicker than I expected!' They met me on our hike today, and Cheyenne displayed obvious happiness at seeing ME, and her pack. It was absolutely joyful, even after only 2 days. Cheyenne has a foster brother now, and they adore each other. She loves other dogs and will totally lick a male dogs mouth trying to get them to play with her. She is timid. But easy. Great on a leash, or off leash. What has transpired with Cheyenne is amazing. STORY: I have been walking Cheyenne on leash for a month. She knows the routine, so allows me to nudge her from her dog house, she loads into the van by herself, but always has a leash dragging ready for me to pick up. This day, we were walking by the van, sort of doubling back, and she did what was expected and hopped in. I was working with a new dog, so I thought, I would give Cheyenne and me a break, and focus on the newbie. She stayed in the van under the seat, and she knows the trail well by now, so here we go. Leap of faith and I left her there with the van doors open. We were up at the top of the mountain, when I saw a flash of grey, it was Cheyenne! She was zooming by me, looking the happiest I have ever seen her! She went to Strawberry who was ecstatic and initiated play and they zoomed around together. Then I got down low and called Cheyenne to me, and she walked up. I reached over to her chest and unclipped the leash that I clung to always, but was now dragging. It was on! She played and ran and was a different dog than the one that came here a few months ago! New photos are showing who this dog really is! She is ready to be seen!
