About Diego

Adoption Fee: $50
Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Diego is a 45-lb. approx. 9-year-old Australian cattle-dog mix. He's spent his whole life in the country and really loves the great outdoors. He's sweet-natured and laid back, perfect for a country lifestyle. His owner lived in rural Maud, Texas, until a cancer diagnosis required him to move quickly for treatment. I have volunteered to help Diego find a new owner, and he needs a home with plenty of outdoor space. Diego has been with us for 4 months now, and I have been unsuccessful in finding him a permanent home. We have many other animals, and our male dog is growing increasingly aggressive about Diego invading his space. They've begun engaging in constant territory battles-both have sustained injuries. Diego would rather be left alone, but we've raised our dog since he was 6 weeks old, so he is certain our property is his territory, and he's not willing to share. Despite continuing training with our dog and constant watchfulness, we cannot ensure Diego's safety. Diego is now having to spend most of his time in a 12x6 pen for his own security. We've found Diego to be great with humans and eager to please. He interacts well with other dogs, including other males and our female dog. We've been working with Diego on basic training commands as he's been the king of his domain until now. So far, he's learning 'sit' and 'wait.' He's a fun challenge and is proving that you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks... if you have the patience for it. Diego LOVES playing with a tennis ball, and he'll spend hours rolling one around on the ground and trapping it with his front paws. He especially likes to have his belly rubbed, and he enjoys the freedom of running at full speed. Diego is current on his rabies vaccine. His rehoming fee is $50. He loves riding in vehicles so I'd be happy to meet you anywhere close-ish to the Bastrop area.
