About Whitney

Schnauzer / Poodle
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Whitney came from a hoarding case where his owner was found dead along with 13 other dogs. The shelter in NC asked for our help with 5 of the dogs. We do not have any history on Whitney. I can only relay what I know first hand. According to the vet she is around 2 years old. She was the hardest one of the 5 to win over. It is evident that she never got to go anywhere outside her home. If we had not taken her she would have died at the shelter. She was pretty reactive and scared. She was matted so bad that the hair was pulling and made sores on her skin. It took me nearly 2 weeks to get her to the point I could pick her up to get her to the groomer. UPDATE: After being here for a few months I can give a fair assessment of Whitney. She DOES not do well with men. My husband can usually work miracles with troubled dogs but she wants nothing to do with him. He has all the patience in the world with Whitney. She will back in to a corner and bark at him. She loves me and trusts me. I can pick her up and do what ever I want to. She submits willingly. She also likes our groomer who is also a lady. Our male vet she dislikes. She would need to go to a home with only females and I imagine no children. She would need a human that is confident and and is ok with letting her chill until she warms up on her own. A perfect home would be one that has experiences with troubled dogs. I imagine all of her issues are due to being cooped up with her previous owner and never being socialized. I need a home for her that can finish what I started. She is ok with non dominant dogs that are not bossy. She will stand her ground if challenged by another dog. She is great with my cats though. She will go to her new home current on vaccines, deworming, flea prevention and spayed. She will be microchipped as well. She will receive a certificate of health from our vet prior to going home. The adopter will get all her health records with adoption. We require a prescreen application to adopt. You can get that on the website www.samskennel.com
