Axel is in need of help. He is a lovely, year old Boerboel, who was imported from Egypt. After he arrived, the owner allowed him to jump from the rear of a truck, Axel slipped and hit his knee on the tow hitch. Owner did not take Axel to the vet, but instead crated him for the next two months to avoid watching him limp. It is unknown if the injury is what caused his sale, which is how I met Axel. Axel had severe atrophy is his rear end and a major limp in his back right leg. I took Axel to the only vet open on a Sunday, who diagnosed him with a torn cruciate ligament, he put him on pain meds and I declined surgery, as I wanted a second opinion. I took him to my vet 3 days later and something much different was seen. Axels kneecap had been pushed off to the side of his knee and had adhered to the outside of the bones. We have spent the last 2 months getting some muscle back in the leg, he now weight bares on the leg and is overall a much happier boy, but he needs more that we cannot afford. He is a lovely dog to everything and he's only a baby at a year old. He deserves a chance, I loathe the thought of putting this very special boy down, but he can't stay like his. He has a major problem keeping weight on, even though he eats well, I believe the pain plays a large part in that. The 2 options that my vet has given me are, a full knee replacement, or stem cell therapy at the least. Right now he is on pain management and doing therapy 3x per week, but this is as far as we can take him. Please help him, you won't regret it. Thank you.
