About Lilly

Adoption Fee: $20
Saint Bernard mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Lilly is our 4 year old St. Bernard mix. We do not know what else she is mixed with. She weighs about 115-120Lbs. We adopted/rescued her when she was only 8 months old from a shelter in West Virginia. She has been a loving member of our family ever since. We have a 2 year old son and Lilly does great with him. They stand about the same height and he loves to hug hee and she gives him lots of kisses. The only thing we have to watch with them is that she doesn't realize how big she is (as with most large breed dogs she thinks shes a lap dog) and sheoccasionally knocks him down when she gets excited. Whenever people come in to our home and she rushes up to greet them tail wagging and full of excited energy. She is a huge lap dog like I said and she loves to lean her butt in to people like her way of hugging and loves to be petted and scratched and to sit on the furniture and snuggle. Lilly loves everyone and has never ever met a person she didn't love. She wants constant attention and affection. She is good with children and I don't believe could every harm a child. Our 2 year old son often does what 2 year olds do and jumps on her when she's sleeping or not expecting it and she so docile towards him she puts her tail between he legs and runs. The only thing to be cautious of with Lilly and kids is like I say she is big and strong and gets very excited and will knock them down if she's not properly monitored when she's playing or when new people come in and she's trying to greet them. Lilly is a good dog but she is not perfect. Lilly's biggest issue and the primary cause for us to put her up for adoption is that we have a back yard that is not fenced in and Lilly has aggression issues towards other dogs in our neighborhood. I want to note that Lilly does and is perfectly capable of getting along with other dogs if properly introduced. Our neighbors have a black lab Bella and her and Lilly are best friends and play together amazingly. that being said, Lilly NEEDS to be constantly monitored if she is outside and other strange dogs are present because she has and will attack them if not properly introduced and monitored. The ideal house for her would be one with a fenced in yard or a home in the country away from lots of other strange dogs or if you do live in a neighborhood then she absolutely needs to have 100% constant attention if she is outside with absolutely no exceptions. We have an electric invisible fence and even tried obedience training with regards to the boundary of our yard and invisible fence but Lilly has such great territory and aggression issues with other strange dogs when they walk down the street in front of our house that she bolts out after them regardless. She has bolted through our fence and attacked a handful of dogs in our neighborhood because sometimes with our 2 year old son we cannot pay attention to both her and him at the same time. This cannot happen any longer. Because of Lilly's boundary issues she has to stay in the house 99% of the day because my wife and I cannot trust her to be outside on her own. It simply isn't fair to Lilly and as hard as it is for us to think about letting her go she deserves more. The ideal family out there we feel would be one with a fenced in yard or one with older or no children (although she does fine with our 2 year old son) and people who will be able to pay lots and lots and lots of attention to her. Maybe even a family with a stay at home husband or wife. She is house broken, healthy and up to date on all of her shots. I hope the perfect family is out there. Lilly is waiting here for you.
