About Murphy

Murphy is an energetic, goofy, fun, intelligent hound mix with lots of enthusiasm for life. He has a real zest for adventure and loves to explore. Like any good hound, he experiences the world through his nose and loves to sniff everything he can find. His charming personality, happy attitude and playful demeanor are enough to win you over. There are a few specifics that Murphy needs in order to be successful in his new home, however. We believe the following will result in a successful adoption: -He would do best in an active home with a person or people who have experience with large dogs. He would make an excellent hiking/jogging/walking partner and would likely excel in training classes. - We do not currently recommend him for a home with children as he still needs to work on his manners and his current lack thereof could cause an issue for a child. --Murphy has lived with other dogs successfully in the past and is currently a part of our play groups. However, if he were to go home with another dog, we would want to make sure both dogs felt good about sharing space. This means we would want to make sure the dogs had plenty of time to interact before the adoption as finalized to ensure a good fit. Murphy would do best with a confident, friendly dog. -We will be asking Murphy's adopters to commit to a positive, force-free training program. We are unsure what Murphy is mixed with, but based on his behavior, it would appear that he could be mixed with some sort of herding dog, as he will sometimes nip at people's fingers, clothes, etc., in order to move them. This means that Murphy needs to be monitored while around new people, on walks, etc., and his adopters need to commit to helping him continue to learn his boundaries and manners.
