Patches is an energetic, very healthy, 9-years young , 45-50 lb Purebred Field English Setter whose elderly owner passed away. She has been in foster for a while with a family member who already has multiple dogs. She adjusted so well to that new environment; we know that she is ready for her new forever home! She came from Havelock Setters in New England and is registered in the Field Stud book. Patches is a very friendly, happy, soft tempered, loving dog. Due to physical limitations of her prior owner, she was mainly a house pet that didn't get a ton of exposure or formal training, but does know basic sit, lie down, stay, and is house broken. She loves being a house dog. Loud noises are a little scary, but she recovers quickly. Thunder storms terrify Patches, so those require extra care for her. She is pretty excited to get out into the world and does pull on leash. A gentle leader may be great initially while she learns some leash manners. She is well behaved indoors but has been known to dig a nice cool spot to lie in if left unsupervised outdoors for long periods of time. She was raised with a cat in the home with no known issues. Patches isn't trustworthy with other females. She might occasionally try to eat other dog's leftovers, especially a high value meal, but she is learning to leave it alone. At 9 yrs old, she is still very active. Her favorite thing is to run, point and chase the birds in the acre dog yard at the foster home. She will do best with a decent size yard (secure 5 ft fencing) to run off some energy or someone who is active enough to take her out for daily walks or runs. Patches has dug under flimsy field fencing a couple times‰'Ű|..she just knows there are so many exciting things to go see in the world! Given ample exercise, she is calm and content to be indoors. She is happy to lie at your feet (or to be on the couch with you like mom use to allow!). She does think an open door is just an invitation out to run and chase birds, so you'll have to watch doors until she gets settled in and learn the ropes. Initially, Patches barked a bit. As she became accustomed to the new sights and sounds, got daily exercise and consistent reminders to 'BE QUIET' (which was heavily praised on each success..She LOVES to hear what a good dog she is!) She now only occasionally bark at loud vehicles or trains. Patches is current on core vaccines and monthly heartworm, is spayed and micro chipped. The foster keeps her feet, leg, pants and belly furnishings trimmed so her beautiful silky coat doesn't pick up stickers so she has gotten quite adept at getting bathed and groomed on a grooming table! Patches is in a foster home in Colfax, CA. She can't wait to have someone to snuggle up with again and call their own!
