Toggam NOTE: Toggam is PENDING ADOPTION We will update his status once his adoption is finalized in the event something falls through... Species: Gulf Coast Box Turtle (Terrapene carolina major) Age: Juvenile Sex: Too young to tell Weight: 59 grams Special Needs: None Care Sheet: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/cs-easternboxie.htm Enclosure Size: 4 X 4 foot predator-proof enclosure, outdoor preferred Needs: PLEASE READ CARE SHEET ABOVE Life Expectancy: 80-100 years ***These turtles are rescues. We GENERALLY DO NOT KNOW THE AGE OF OUR FOSTERS Suggested Adoption Donation: The Central MS Turtle Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of native wild turtles in Mississippi. Turtles are placed for adoption only when circumstances prohibit their return to the wild. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, any donation toward the care we've provided to this turtle, as well as the hundreds of other turtles we help, is always welcome and appreciated(adoptive family is responsible for shipping when applicable). Toggam was transferred to the care of CMTR by another volunteer organization on 08/22/17. Poor Toggam was playing a most reluctant host to some uninvited guests-maggots. Thankfully, the unwanted bot flies are gone and Toggam is ready to enjoy life with his forever family! Box turtles CANNOT be released in a 'random' location in the wild. Why? Because all box turtles have an internal 'homing signal.' Their true 'home' is the size of a football field. If box turtles are released somewhere other than that specific area they will spend the rest of their life attempting to return to that location, despite the perils. Therefore, for box turtles who have been displaced, it is the safest option to adopt them to qualified families when their point of origin is unknown. NOTE: Please verify laws and regulations in your resident state pertaining to the guardianship of reptiles. MS residents MUST have a 'small game and freshwater fishing' license available at: https://www.ms.gov/mdwfp/hunting_fishing/
