About Alice

Akita
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Acquired: 6-20-12 Adopted: 11-24-12 Missing: 4.26.13 Found: 10.17.16 Alice's story: Alice is an about 6 years old (born approx 6.20.10), spayed female Akita. She is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Alice has returned from Wonderland! Alice came to us after being picked up running stray here in Virginia Beach, VA in 2012. She was adopted later that same year, but it wasn't working out and the family wanted to return her in April of 2013. She went missing the day we were supposed to pick her up from the adopters. Days, weeks, months went by with no news. We presumed she was dead. Then, in October 2016 (nearly 3.5 years later!), we got a call from an animal control facility in Maryland saying they had caught a stray Akita in a trap and her microchip said she was Alice and belonged to us! We were floored and beyond excited to get her back! She's in great condition for being missing for so long, and we are grateful to whomever had been caring for her. At some point when she was gone, she tore both her ACLs and never received medical attention for it. She doesn't need surgery, but she has arthritis in both legs, so she'll need to be on a joint supplement. She's on supplement and back on her thyroid pills and feeling great. :-) This amazing girl with the incredible story is great with other dogs (she goes to daycare!) and very friendly with people. She would do well as an only dog or in a home with the right male dog.
