About Lady

Meet Miss Lady Bug! Lady is Boston Terrier/Boxer mix and roughly 7 years old. Lady was pulled from Indianapolis Animal Care Services as a rescue only due to her age and the condition of her left eye, she had also started shutting down in the shelter environment. Lady was estimated by IACS to be 9 years old, but our vet believes she is more around 7 years. It is very clear that Lady was used as a breeding machine most of her life. And although she was an owner surrender due to a move, we feel it was because they had no more use for her. Lady's teeth were in horrible condition, our vet called it 'cage biting' from either chewing on a crate or metal fence. She has signs of being chained up and was either kept outdoors in the elements or in a damp basement. Her left eye has a scarred cornea from an old injury and will likely go blind in that eye at some point. She does need eye drops and ointment daily for her eye, but she does well with getting it each day. Due to her over breeding Lady also has some leakage issues and has to be on a supplement to help prevent this. Neither the eye drops or supplement are costly and we hope this does not deter anyone from this sweet girl. Lady had some noncancerous mammary tumors removed and was spayed after arriving to AHS. Despite all she has been through, Lady is seriously a sweetheart and has so much love to give. She can be unsure of new people, but is quickly won over with a treat or two (she loves her treats). Lady loves to run in the yard and strategize how she will catch a squirrel. She loves to sunbathe and LOVES playing with her Kong Wubba. She has the cutest little ears that flop while she runs through the yard. All Lady wants is a soft bed to lay on and be with you. She on occasion likes her space and does find her crate as a safe zone when she needs alone time or time to decompress. Lady would make a wonderful pet to first time dog owners as she is relatively low maintenanc. Lady is house and crate trained. Lady is not a rambunctious dog and likes her home to be on the quieter side. She gets too anxious if there is too much going on. She would do best in a 1-2 person home with no kids or older, calmer kids. She would do okay with another dog (she likes to be boss), but she is A Okay being the only pet. Sadly she never really learned to be a dog so she is unsure on how to play with others. She did well with the cats while at the sanctuary, but was pretty interested in the cats at her previous foster home. If you have a scaredy cat, she may chase it. If you have cat that will stand up for itself, then you should be fine. Meet and greet would be a must with slow introductions. Lady does well on a leash and loves to go for walks.
