About Roman

Adoption Fee: $200
Pit Bull / Boxer
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

One look at Roman's face, neck and legs; and you'll know his history up to when he was rescued. The intake photos of this (likely) bait dog (too graphic to include here) show he couldn't have been a great competitor in the ring. When his owners fled the area, he was left behind, chained without food or water but with open tear wounds festering and a collar so tight, it was embedded in his neck. Turn the page on this sweet boy, and you'll find a heart full of love for the kindness of our volunteers and the strangers who subsequently showed him compassionate attention. He's such a grateful cuddle bug, he'll work his way onto your lap on the sofa or lean against you for a massage if you're standing. Roman is about four years old, weighs a strong 45 pounds, and responds cheerfully to every human he's met since entering our program. He's up to date on all shots, neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on preventatives for parasites. Quite the food-motivated hound, Roman is attending obedience classes and is doing great with his sit, down and heel commands. 'Stay' is a tough assignment for such an exuberant dog; but he's getting there. His wag motor is always in high gear (watch that tail!), and he especially enjoys soft toys and an energetic game of tug. Roman has also now graduated from basic obedience training and ready to learn more! Most of the time Roman's happy with canine neighbors, but you can't blame him for an occasional tendency to be suspicious of their intentions. For this reason, we are seeking an adoptive household with no other pets. If you have a soft spot in your heart for a dog that has surfaced from a miserable, tortured existence and bounded into a life of happy playfulness and eagerness to learn what you have to teach him, then Roman may be the perfect 'best friend' for you!
