Pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/supreme+ruby+rose Both Rose and Dodi arrived VERY frightened, from a heartbreaking situation. They were exceptionally well bred and cared for, trained and shown at a young age. Then their owners' health deteriorated, and was soon diagnosed as dementia. Her husband has cared for the horses as well as he could, but his priority is his wife's care of course. Finally he could no longer keep them, and so her sister contacted us, then drove hundreds of miles to pick up the horses and bring these 2 to us, and the 3rd horse to another facility. Rose arrived significantly underweight -about 125 lbs on her 900 lb frame - with a shaggy rough coat, in need of dental care, farrier care, groceries, and possibly a muzzle to manage her cribbing. She behaved well for the vet for her physical and basic exam, and was found to not have any major health issues except nervous habits like cribbing, and a need for dental work come late spring. Ground Manners-C Rose is excitable when led, worried more about Dodi than about the humans handling her. This is improving with time, as their separation anxiety is easing and they now often even come into the barn separately, with one remaining in the pasture with a friend and CHOOSING not to come to the gate together. Basic Riding Skills:unknown We believe both mares have basic riding skills. Until Rose reaches a proper weight and fitness, we will not put any weight on her. However, she saddles and bridles easily, lunges exceptionally well, and has learned to round pen at liberty easily. Ideal Career -We suspect Rose was intended to be a saddleseat show horse and that she would excel in that arena once fit. Stall Manners-D If both mares are in the barn, then Rose is fairly calm, but still cribs and plays with doors, latches, etc. She will stand calm to be groomed once asked to settle. She is better about remaining behind alone than Dodi. Trailering Skill-B We're told they trailered with ease Companionship / Pasture Manners-A Both mares originally wanted nothing to do with the herd, but have since settled in beautifully and get along well with all the herd. Manageability for Routine and Medical Care-B Rose was well behaved for the vet. She is edgy about having farrier work done.
