Rufus Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 4 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: 8+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts Rufus is a super sweet guy once he settles in and gets comfortable. He's been bounced around quite a bit in his life and it does take him a bit longer to open up and show his true personality, but once he does you'll surely fall for him. He's a fairly active guy that needs to go for his daily outing whether it's a nice walk, jog, bike ride, or hike. He's a good boy in the house, but will let you know if he's not getting enough exercise (he'll pester you until you give in and bring him for a walk). He comes off as a tough guy, but is really quite a mush and is super afraid of fireworks, gunshots in the distance, any loud scary noises really (he seeks comfort and tends to be super clingy during thunderstorms). Did I mention he loves butt scratches! He is good with most large dogs and is living with two foster sisters, he does seem like he maybe prefers males more but it really depends on the dog. Due to his high prey drive, he is not good with small dogs. The challenge that Rufus has that is causing him to be overlooked is he can be an escape artist. This can be worked with and if he got the exercise and stimulation he craves it would help a ton. Working with a trainer would not only help both Rufus and his new owner learn but it would also help the two of you bond and build a connection. He's also good with kids, but would be best with kids 8 and up because of his enthusiasm for life. If you are interested in adopting Rufus please email [email protected] and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Rufus's adoption donation is $250 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
